Hey guys we are back with another kickboxing technique video! Today Coach Kellin and Scott helped show us a set up and execution of the Thai punch or more commonly known as the superman punch.

Some people like to set it up with low kicks, waiting for their opponent to check the kick or block down with the arm. The trick is to sell the fake, sell it like you believe your going to throw it: Then… at the last second… wham! Thai punch coming at ya! We prefer body kicks to see the guard drop or cross over. But however it’s set up is fine as long as the move lands flush. Don’t admire your work too much, no matter how great the Thai punch! Pressure forward and follow through with some bonus strikes to finish the job!

Check out the video below and enjoy!

One of the most common and thus frustrating conversations I have with my students is always about diet. Weekly, if not daily, I’ll get asked the same simple question:

“How can I lose 10lbs – 20lbs quickly”???

The answer to this question is so simple: Just eat real food. That’s it. In an attempt to put this in perspective and make a light, enjoyable read out of it, let’s break it down and start from the bottom.

Real food.

What is real food? Real food can spoil, real food needs to be prepared, real food is unpackaged and free of bonus ingredients (nitrates, preservatives etc….). Real food is the real deal. When thinking about food, put it in perspective with this analogy: Our bodies are like cars in the sense that the food we put in acts like the fuel or “gas” of our cars. So your body is a car and it runs on air, fuel, and spark . you need the certain amount of each to make sure your car runs optimally. Too much air you blow the engine, too little fuel you feel sluggish… the ratios have to be juuuusst right . Your body is the same way.

Why do you think you feel like crap? You fuel your body with garbage!!! If your body doesn’t have the right ratio and balance of macro and micro nutrients, it can’t operate properly. Just like a high performance Mustang needs a high octane fuel to run properly your body needs clean, healthy fuel to run off of as well.

Why do you think you’re overweight? Why do you think you have high blood pressure? Why do you think you have adult-onset diabetes, or a spare tire that could fit on a semi truck?!?!!?!? It’s the food your eating! The crap you reach for at fast food joints, the refined sugars and grains at supermarkets. These are what’s doing this to you. You’re doing this to you. YOU have complete control over what goes in your mouth and how it gets there. I have an easy solution. EAT REAL FOOD. The problem is that people eat pre-packaged non-foods with an overabundance of carbohydrates, too little protein, hardly any fiber, and little to no nutritional value. Most pre-packaged meal dinner goods and fast food joint products contain very little of the neccessary amounts of the various vitamins and nutrients we need to be in proper ratio.

So what’s the solution?

Don’t eat food that has a label on it. If it has a label telling you what’s “in it” that’s a product and not real food. Eat real food, meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, healthy fats, natural sweeteners and water…. for God’s sake…. water!!!!!!!! I guarantee if you eat nothing but REAL FOOD in the proper ratio of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates you will be the healthiest you have been or ever could be.

Real garbage

In a nutshell, this can be summarized easily. If it’s pre-packaged, has a label with more than one ingredient or you bought it at a gas station deli… stay away. If it used to moo, someone ripped it out of the ground or picked it off of a tree, is free of packaging, labels and other added ingredients then it’s going to be good!

So people, just eat real food! By following this simple rule I absolutely guarantee an improvement in your health. If it has a label it isn’t real food!

Rant over. Have a nice day!

Hey Guys! Back again with another small kickboxing technique video from Big Will’s Gym! Here we have a pretty common technique, the lead leg front kick/push kick. We go over a couple standard sweeps and counters to this kick and then I put a spin on the classic sweep with a new style of counter. The trick to doing the sweep through and hook is fluidity. Try not to stop or break the motions up, as soon as you sweep and have control throw the kick aside and roll into the lead hook. Let’s check it out!

Hey guys! I’ve had more requests for a better hand wrap video, so hopefully this one cuts it!

Wrapping your hands for kickboxing, boxing, Muay Thai or any other high impact combat sport is a good idea. If your a professional fighter I don’t need to remind you that your hands write your checks. Broken hands, broke fighter! Training safely everyday is good practice and habits I push on my students in class daily. A few extra tips on wraps etc….

Longer is better. The more material the more you can support. Avoid anything under 120cm.

All cotton wraps tend not to breathe as well as poly/cotton or elastic type wraps. Get something that stretches a bit and your hands will not be as hot and sweaty inside your gloves (plus they won’t smell as bad).

The sun is the best drier of wraps. If climate permits air and hang drying them will keep them fresh. If you wash/dry them in a washing machine beware! The material will get caught up in the washing machine and be a pain to get out. How do I know this? Experience haha! Use a mesh style bag to throw the wraps in so they can’t get caught up or knotted in the wash.

Lastly if your at the end of your wrap and find the velcro side down, don’t start over! Merely unwrap one time from the wrist, fold the material over and finish the wrap with the velcro right side out!

I hope those tips and the video help, check back for more tips, tricks and cool stuff from Big Will’s Gym and What’s Good With Will.com I’ll see you guys next time!

What do we have for you guys today? Well a few videos ago we worked on a lead leg push kick to a fake set up for a boxing combination. This one is similar but were using the rear leg to step through with a powerful right hand. The trick is to act like your walking up a flight of stairs, when you pick your right let up set it down forward like you were going up some stairs and use the momentum to go into the cross. Below is a detailed video with an explanation! Check back often for more drills, workouts and videos from Big Will’s Gym and What’s Good With Will.com!

Hey guys! I know it’s been a while since a recipe has been posted but good things come to those who wait! I was craving pizza, which we all know isn’t Paleo, so I decided to make Chicken Parmesan and it was fantastic. Here’s what you’ll need:

4 chicken breasts

4 eggs

1 c almond flour

1 c parmesan cheese

1 jar marinara sauce

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp pepper

To get started, put your eggs in a bowl and whisk; in another bowl, toss all your dry ingredients together and sift. Next, you’ll want to grab a sheet of parchment paper, lay your chicken down and flatten it out with a meat mallet so it cooks evenly. Once that is done, dip your chicken in the egg and then your dry mixture. Place in an oiled pan on the stove on medium heat and cook until the outside is golden brown and your chicken isn’t pink inside. While your chicken is cooking, grab the marinara sauce and place in a sauce pan on low heat for 15 minutes. After all your chicken is cooked and your sauce is heated up, spoon the sauce on top of your chicken and BAM! you now have a tasty Paleo version of Chicken Parmesan. Some steamed veggies or a salad will pair nicely with this dish. Enjoy!

Hey guys! It’s been a while, we’ve been busy with the gym remodel and things are finally slowing down. Which means I’ll be back to posting on more of a regular basis! Enough of that, onto the good stuff.

Today we have a push kick to kickboxing combination that were going to do against someone who guards the push kick incorrectly or reacts to the push kick fake. The idea behind it is that you’ll have landed a few of the push kicks either earlier in the round or earlier in the day and you have someone who is flinching or reacting to your push kick. You’ll pick your leg up (that’s the fake) and set it down forward while walking into a jab-cross-hook-low kick (1,2,3,10) combination. Watch the video for more details and don’t forget to subscribe to the YouTube channel, post comments and share with your friends!

If you like what you see come check us out! Big Will’s Gym is located in Lacey. We do Muay Thai Kickboxing, Boxing, CrossFit Striking, CrossFit and MMA training 5 days a week. Come on in and try us out for a free class!

Want a new Kickboxing focus mitt drill to try? Well look no further! We were working practice today and worked this combination for roughly half the class time. We started the combination slow and broke it down into roughly 3 steps. Make sure you go slowly and pay attention to the video. Haste makes waste so take your time to do it correctly! Video and details below.

The breakdown is as follows. Slip 2 – counter 3 body, 3 head lead pivot, 2,3,2 duck, duck * 4 body, 3 head, 10 leg push kick for good measure. If you don’t do the number system much, or just have a hard time with my short hand please watch the video closely. Were both standing in right handed stance, pay attention to how Kellin steps his foot out and slides his rear foot with him on the initial slip. This is very important! With just a step, or lean the counter punch will be ineffective and thus the combination falls apart! Shadow box the drill alone or if you have a coach or partner to try it with give it a go! For more kickboxing, boxing and combat sports tips check on back! Make sure to let us know how you liked the combination in the comment section!
